Ernie Pyle, summer 1944 – An American war correspondent in Normandy

When he landed in Normandy on 7 June 1944, Ernie Pyle was the best (Pulitzer Prize) and the most popular of American war correspondents. Pyle owed his popularity to the fact that his version of the stories of ordinary soldiers was simple and full of empathy. 

During the summer of 1944, he followed the American troops from Omaha Beach to the liberation of Paris, taking part, not only in the capture of Cherbourg, the war of the hedgerows, and the bombardments during Operation Cobra, but also of their surprise discovery of Normandy.
